I am wondering about this as my brother brought up that ones who are certified nurses typically cost more because they are medically trained and cleared to perform things an uncertified caregiver can't do. Is there a difference here or has he misunderstood something?

Knowing how my father feels about going into a nursing home, I think that will be the last option we visit. For now, I am trying to figure out how to go about getting assistant living and medical care while they remain in their own home. I am just confused as to how the cost is estimated. Is it based on hours? Days a week? I am just not sure. My father and mother are not to a point where they need it but I want to be prepared in case their cognitive functions decline rapidly.

I am new all this. Having had my father diagnosed with Alzheimer's and my mother with mild Dementia shortly after, I am not sure what to do with anything. I am a bit all over the place and stressed. I just want to know how long I have for them before I need to either have someone step in or find a nursing home. They both have issues with memory but not as bad as I have seen or read with other people their age who have been diagnosed. Is the progression different for different people?
