Hospice for Loved One with Dementia
In General Questions

Hello Ms. Elle, The following indicators are utilized as a guide to determine when a person with dementia/Alzheimer’s disease is a candidate for Hospice: - unable to dress without assistance - unable to bathe without assistance - unable to handle mechanics of toileting - limited ability to speak - intelligible vocability is lost -unable to ambulate without assistance - unable to sit up independently - unable to smile - unable to hold head up If a patient/loved one is experiencing any one or more than one of these symptoms then patient may be a candidate for Hospice. It does not hurt to have patient evaluated by Hospice to verify if patient can benefit from the support of Hospice. Please feel free to contact me should you like to discuss a specific scenario or would like some guidance. Denise Beckwith, LMSW Kindred Hospice Care Consultant 210-912-3230
